The members of the Team Liquid forums have recently translated a news story from Korean gaming site Fighter Forum, quoting rumors from "reliable sources" that a sequel is currently in the works for Blizzard's groundbreaking RTS StarCraft, with plans for a beta release by the end of the year.
Details are few and far between, but according to the article, Starcraft 2 is set to continue the operatic story set down in the first game and its expansion pack, Brood War. Rumors claim that Blizzard is adding a fourth race to the game based on Kerrigan, and will therefore merge qualities of both the Terran and Zerg races. The franchise's other three races will also see a number of new units added to their arsenals. Additionally, the unit limit of 200, which has been seen as a boon to some, but a burden to others, may be completely eliminated in the sequel.
But fans who still play the original game may not like to hear the article's other claim. Sources believe that Blizzard will attempt to shut down the original StarCraft servers in order to ensure a greater level of success for the sequel, despite the fact that game is still widely played in many areas of the world, and is considered something of a "national game" in South Korea.
As of this article's publication, Blizzard has yet to comment on this story or offer any indication of plans for a Starcraft sequel, but GamePro will keep you updated as soon as we find out more. [/b]
