Nå får vi snart Oblivion with guns AND demons.

Two of the most acclaimed game development studios of all time are joining forces. ZeniMax Media, parent company of Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls development studio Bethesda Softworks, announced today that it is purchasing legendary Doom and Wolfenstein studio id.

In an interview with Kotaku, id co-founder John Carmack, id CEO Todd Hollenshead and ZeniMax CEO Robert Altman said the purchase will change none of the principles or principals of id and Bethesda but will allow id to grow like it never has before. The purchase does not affect plans for previously announced games from id that are slated for release through other publishers, including the Activision-backed Wolfenstein and the EA Partners-planned Rage.

Personlig syns jeg dette er utmerkede nyheter. Activision er den verste utgiveren og de har hatt de klamme grepet sitt rundt dem lenge nok.

VB: What are you going to do to grow now, John?

JC: We already had a plan in place. We will add a third major development team. We started with the Quake Live team, which had less than a dozen people. The idea was to get them through the Quake Live project. Then we will take them through an intermediate step of doing multiplayer work for Rage (right) and Doom 4. They can get familiar with our technology there. Then we will take one of our main intellectual properties and assign it to them. It’s not clear what that is. And that’s all we wanted: three teams. It’s not as if we wanted to create four, five and six teams. We have two teams doing big titles now. We have our mobile teams doing other work. But we’ll add that third major team over a period of time that we can foresee.

Med tanke på hvor bra Quake Live har vært, så tror jeg at akkurat dette kan funke fett.
