In collaboration with Nintendo, third-party developer Namco's latest effort, Star Fox: Assault, fuses the aerial combat of yore (i.e., on SNES and Nintendo 64) with the hit-or-miss on-foot adventure elements of the series 2002 sequel. What they arrive at is a watered down, compromised hybrid of disparate parts, aching to gel together into a cohesive action experience.
But break the game down into its respective parts and there's no one aspect that's more to blame than the rest. Everything about Star Fox: Assault comes across as competent, yet, frustratingly bland.
