The long awaited day came and went yesterday. I got to spend a good couple of hours with Fable, and so far, I wasn't dissapointed.
The first thing I noticed is load times, or lack of. I was very impressed with speedy load times. Even between regions the load time is less than 5-10 seconds.
At first glance I wasn't so sure about the graphics. Everything seemed to be "bright and white" so to speak. But the more I played, the more I noticed the little details. The foliage, flowers and trees are especially detailed looking. The character models look solid, and have great animation. The attacking animations, when chaining together combos especially looks good. Faces are detailed and fairly realistic looking.
The sound is average, though the music really shines. I really love the way the "Fable Theme" is constantly flowing, being slightly adjusted here and there. It kind of reminds me of the Star Wars theme in different areas of those movies. It's subtle, but noticable. The voice acting seems fairly solid, and I like the fact that your character doesn't have a voice, it makes it a bit more immersive.
I was also impressed with the controls. Everything seemed fairly responsive and the button layout was nice and straightforward. Combat works well, and the timing system for attacks is fairly decent. Almost reminds me of Vagrant Story, but not quite as involved.
Being only a few hours in, I didn't get to notice the "good" and "bad" aspects all that much. But it does appear people notice what's going on around them. For instance, kicking chickens usually evokes laughter from nearby crowds. Also, if you are "bad" the guards will tell you they are watching you, etc.
Overall so far I'm impressed and not dissapointed. I can't wait to sit down and really dive into this game. What are your impressions so far?
