Resi creator's next game revealed
Genji The Legend Begins to feature motion-captured samurai slicing - first details and shots
Sony Europe has announced the first details of Genji The Legend Begins, the first title for PS2 from Game Republic - the new studio founded by Street Fighter II, Resident Evil and Devil May Cry creator Yoshiki Okamoto.
The cinematic samurai adventure is based on a popular Japanese legend and features historic hero Genkuro Yoshitsune and his warrior monk sidekick Benkei, who are collectively on a mission to release the oppressed from the evil forces of the warlord Kiyomori and restore the Genji dynasty to power. It's always the way, isn't it?
The game - which Okamoto says is influenced by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers - features lush autumnal forests, grand palaces and blood-soaked feudal battlegrounds.
But it's not just about Genji's visuals: there's an equal focus on the fighting, which includes a slew of combos, super-moves and parries - all motion-captured from a samurai master, no less. There's also the inevitable bullet time-style feature.
We've got a pair of early screens on the right, although we'll be bringing you loads more shots and details as E3 approaches.
Genji The Legend Begins will be released for PS2 later this year
