GameSpy: What unique attributes does Eastern Bay have?
Burnout Team: Our Eastern Bay track was designed to be a nod to core Burnout racing fans. While there will still be chokepoints, alternate routes, and plenty of traffic to use as weapons, the Eastern Bay track is really all about blazing down the highways at immense speed and going up against oncoming traffic. This is the only night time track you will experience in Burnout Revenge, and it is also entirely highway based! Exits lead straight back to on ramps, there are no rest stops, just pure high-speed adrenaline!
GameSpy: Why choose Eastern Bay for a location in the game?
Burnout Team: As you know, all of the tracks in Burnout Revenge are inspired by real-world locations. Eastern Bay draws its inspiration from Tokyo. If you have ever visited Japan before -- and I highly encourage you all to -- you'll notice that Tokyo is one of the most modern-looking cities in the world. When scouting out locations for Burnout Revenge, we thought it would be cool to create a track that drew from this inspiration and was entirely constructed of highways and really had the high-tech, modern look and feel for Tokyo.
GameSpy: Roughly, how long did it take to implement this location from inception to completion?
Burnout Team: Our tracks are an ongoing process and we won't be done with any of them until the game is gold. We're constantly tweaking and tuning each location for maximum takedown effectiveness. That said, Eastern Bay was one of the earlier tracks that we began implementing and since we debuted it at E3, it has seen a lot of aesthetic and gameplay-oriented shifts. The flow of the location is really important, so as well as being super-fast, the alternate routes and shortcuts need to feel as though they fit into a location. We've spent a lot of time on this area in particular.
GameSpy: What's the coolest area in Eastern Bay?
Burnout Team: The coolest thing, is the race through the stop barriers and then jumping down from an upper section of the freeway onto the highway below. Get the drop wrong, and you'll be into the heart of oncoming traffic!
GameSpy: How does Eastern Bay compare to the other locations?
Burnout Team: Eastern Bay is claustrophobic and very, very fast, perhaps the closest thing to a race track you will see in Burnout Revenge. Compared to Motor City, which is a much harsher, grittier track in an industrial location, Eastern Bay puts you in the heart of all things high tech. Look for the neon billboards, cityscapes, interweaving highways and bi-ways, and, of course, the tunnels!
GameSpy: What's the nastiest aspect of Eastern Bay?
Burnout Team: Taking a risk and then getting locked into the oncoming freeway traffic for longer than you'd expect. You get a choice. Do you dive for the gap to get back into same-way traffic, or head for the onramp (in your case, an exit!) and risk it from there.
